Cooperation and professional training

Specialists of the department were trained in many leading clinics in Europe and the US, and thanks to the dedicated work of them and their colleagues many new methods and technologies were introduced. A training program “Ultrasound diagnosis of developmental dislocation of hip joint” was implemented with the support of “Jinishian” Memorial Foundation. More than 40 specialists working in maternity hospitals have participated in the educational program. The goal of this ongoing project is to make the method a nationwide screening test in Armenia for early diagnosis of the developmental dysplasia of the hip in newborns, which will also be effective for the organization of further treatment. The changes made in the field are also statistically significant: if 10 years ago the number of children treated in hospital was 25 per year, today 5-6 children with congenital hip dislocation are treated annually.

In addition to the projects listed above, scientific research works are also carried out. In the last 10 years, the department has actively collaborated with Swiss and Austrian clinics and University of Iowa (US). 2 of the department’s specialists are members of the European Pediatric Orthopedic Society and actively participate in annual conferences. The specialists have also published several scientific articles in local and international scientific journals.
